TOP GUN LACROSSE CELEBRATES ITS 25TH CAMP SEASON

ARE YOU READY TO GO?  CLICK HERE!

It was 1990.  My son had just returned from another lacrosse camp.  Maybe his 5th in two years.

The debriefing always went the same way.  “How did it go, Justin?”  The answer was something like this……line drill, line drill, talk, talk, repeat.  Then the big reward at the end of the camp….a scrimmage.  Yippee!

There had to be a better way.   Shouldn’t a summer camp be at least a little fun?  And I’m sure most adolescent boys would prefer more than a scrimmage or two, held hostage until the end of a long series of boring lectures and drills?

So the Top Gun Lacrosse Camp was born the following summer.  The high school coaches were replaced with high level active players.  The lectures became full speed, pads on demonstrations.  And games were played two or three times a day.

I wrote up all this in a camp brochure that was stitched into that spring’s camp issue of LACROSSE.  I reserved two hundred beds at Williams College in Williamstown, MA.  And waited.  We filled all the beds in about two weeks, requested more from Williams, then more, until they finally cut me off at 370.  And that’s how it all began.

Now, twenty-five years later, we’re still doing it the same way.  And because we can’t do a camp that big ever again, we now require a Coaches Letter of Recommendation to make sure we accommodate the most driven players.

So I hope you’ll join us for the celebration.  We remain true to the approach that separated us from the pack 25 years ago.  And we’re tipping our hats to the nostalgia of these many years in a few specific ways:

  1. Every camper will receive “throwback” items upon arrival at camp – the same two premiums from the 1991 camp.
  2. We’re bringing back the “Wheel of Lax” (2002 to 2010) and loading it with $2,500 in prizes.  Every camper gets a free spin.
  3. And all campers will get to play in our “Lacrosse Olympics” (2011/12) with prizes in every event.

But, of course, the real reason to attend this year’s Top Gun Aces Camp is the lacrosse.  Over the past 25 years we have trained more than 10,000 young athletes, most of whom went on to play in colleges, and hundreds of whom became All Americans.

You may sign up for our 25th Anniversary Top Gun Aces Camp here.  But you should do it soon.  This one will definitely sell out early.

Hope to see you there.

"CLAM ELITE LACROSSE LEAGUE"

"Drop the ball and play!"  That's what we've said for our first twenty-one years as New England's oldest and largest indoor lacrosse league.

But as we contemplated the future direction of lacrosse in our region - especially in the context of player development for the next level - we realized we have an obligation to deliver more.

We no longer concern ourselves with being the region's biggest indoor league.  Instead, we have turned our attention to providing a league tailored to competitive, motivated players who are determined to play high level college lacrosse - regardless of their current age.

FIGHTING CLAMS & LITTLENECKS

Right now, Top Gun's All Star programs have two components: the Fighting Clams and the Littlenecks.

The Fighting Clams are Top Gun's "elite". They are selected by Top Gun's highly qualified staff as the best of the best - in our opinion the types of players that college coaches from all across the country should know about. The Fighting Clam teams are divided by graduation year to help college coaches better evaluate the players before them.

The Top Gun Fighting Clams attend several of the pre-screened, established select tournaments in the summer and fall recruiting seasons. What they have done over the past several years - and this is not opinion but fact - is establish themselves as the premier all-star team in New England, and one of the best in the country (Click here to view Clam College Placements since 2003).

The Littlenecks are the best 6th/7th/8th graders that are looking to take the first step towards possibly becoming a Clam some day.  Like the Clams, the Littlenecks will travel to tournaments to challenge themselves against the nation's best.  Some of the tournaments the Littlenecks will be attending will be the same as the Clams.
