Sometimes when you get to the championship games, one team is able to simply overwhelm the other. And with the caliber teams that make it this far into the playoffs, it's not hard to see how a team with momentum can overwhelm anyone.
This setting also gives these players a chance to shine against the other top teams in the league, which makes choosing a Player of the Week difficult.
But we here at Top Gun World Headquarters are paid to make the hard choices. So, here we go.
(Playoff Box scores - MSS Super League Semi-final & Championship and HSR Acton Championship - below).
PLAYER OF THE WEEK (Week 7, Session 1)
Kevin Lally
Jr. Necks
MSS
17 saves, 15 GA, 53.1% SP
W 29-15 vs. Dux-Bernier (MSS Super League Championship)
Comments: Dux-Bernier was the top team coming out of the Hingham location for good reason. In the seven games leading up to the Middle School Silver championship game, Dux-Bernier was averaging just under 19 goals per game.
So it is a testament to the play of Kevin that kept Dux-Bernier from going on the runs that led them throughout the session. By keeping the boys from Duxbury from going on those runs, Lally's Jr. Necks were able keep the momentum in their favor.
Offense wins games (29 goals proves that). But defense and goaltending wins you championships (the Jr. Necks walking away with the covet sweatshirts prove that). Congratulations, Kevin.
