PLAYER & GAME OF THE WEEK: SESSION 3, WEEK 6

02/08/10

Super Sunday brings the Super Bowl & the Super League Playoffs

As we here at Top Gun World Headquarters were drawing up this session's schedule, we noticed one very important thing: our first Sunday of the Super League playoffs were on Super Sunday.  Needless to say, we brain-stormed to make sure everyone got what they wanted - our opening day of playoffs and to watch the Super Bowl (mostly for the commercials, but the game wasn't bad either).

And coming out of Sunday, this writer thinks it was a success.  Both the Hingham and Tyngsboro conferences had their number one seeds advance to Acton while every number one seed across all divisions in the Acton conference fell.  In fact, the highest seated team to advance to the 2/21 Playoffs was #2 seated Winged River Red in the High School Red division.

And everyone was finished in plenty of time to get home, eat some wings, and watch a great Super Bowl.

Then there's Player of the Week candidates.  Every player in consideration was a playoff participant and they all advanced to the 2/21 Playoffs. Find out who stood out amoung the stand-outs.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Julia Hoggins
AB
GHS
Game 1: 11 saves, 8 GA, 57.9% SP
W 18-8 vs. Wayland
Game 2: 10 saves, 9 GA, 52.6% SP
W 14-9 vs. Arlington

Comments:  When you get into the playoffs, your best player has to be your goalie if you want to win a championship.  Julia was superb in AB's first two playoff games earning them a spot in the championship game on 2/21 against rival LS 1.

Julia's play was nothing short of spectacular, especially in the second half of AB's opening round win against Wayland, where she posted 7 saves to stem the tide and keep AB ahead.

Congratulations, Julia!
