TOP GUN LACROSSE CELEBRATES ITS 25TH CAMP SEASON

CLAMS WRAP UP THE SUMMER TOUR

The Summer Tour's final stop.

The Clams wrapped up their summer tour with a trip down to the University of Delaware and the Hotbeds tournament.

In four days, we were scheduled to play 11 games.  And while in some ways the schedule was grueling, it was also very good for this team as each day they got better.  Being our last event of the summer, we brought down a team that was younger - primarily rising juniors with a few rising sophomores and rising seniors in the mix.

The goal: to have our younger Fighting Clams feel the majority of the spotlight on them and start to get the feel of playing without their older counterparts.

And while a 4-6 record may not suggest a successful trip, this can be a little deceiving.  The boys started 0-3 with two 1-goal losses (one in a "Braveheart") before getting their first win of the tournament in decisive fashion.  Unfortunately, the 1-goal loss monster struck again (another "Braveheart") at the end of the second day. If our three one goal losses go the other way, we're 7-4, and feeling quite good about things given the relative youth of our squad in comparison to many of our opponents.

Day three saw a solid opening game followed by an equally sluggish game as we went into the afternoon 1-1 on the day.  The afternoon game helped exorcise a few demons as we were able to preserve a two-goal victory despite a strong push from our opponent in the closing minutes.  The day closed with a game against our bracket's leader. In the second half of the game, after we had kept the contest at a one goal differencial in the first half, they pulled away.  Still, three of the four games on the day had everyone involved pleased with our performance.

On the last day, we were scheduled with only one game.  The boys went into this one with a clear goal: end with a win.  And against a squad from the Baltimore area, that never is an easy thing.  But this team would not be denied, and they went on to a 12-5 win.  And this was a great team win with 9 of the 12 goals being assisted and very few mistakes throughout the two 35-minute halves.
