TOP GUN LACROSSE CELEBRATES ITS 25TH CAMP SEASON

Rising Clam Summer Season Review

Rising Clams performance suggests bright future for program

Like the Fighting Clams, the Rising Clams did not stay in tact as the same team for the whole summer. Rather, Rising Clams picked and chose the events that worked for them. However, the core remained in tact throughout. And the majority of these "core" Rising Clam players had outstanding summers.

In our first event, the IAS Showcase back in June, the Rising Clams played games before they practiced. And learning and improving as they went, the boys fought their way to a solid 2-1-1 record against some solid and generally older opponents.

Then it was onto Harvard, where the Rising Clams marked their official arrival with a resounding 4-0 mark. As the Head Coach of this squad, I can personally attest to the fact that this may have been the hardest working, toughest Clam team of the summer, at any level. And this performance clearly showed to the Fighting Clams that if they didn't bring their "A" game throughout the summer, their spot might be claimed by a harder working player who has not yet arrived with the top group. Now, as fall invitations begin to go out, at least to some extent, this will be happening.

At the Dartmouth Showcase, held at Devens MA, the precarious date (through July 4th) kept a couple top players from each position from being able to attend. But still, the Rising Clams put forth a decent performance, notching a 3-3 performance at a tournament that didn't take it easy on the squad from a scheduling perspective. And adding to the noteworthiness of the performance was the fact that two Rising Clams made the All Star team: Weston's Joey Pasquale and Hamilton-Wenham's Elliott Burr.

For the last event of the summer, we split into two squads. And to ensure that we had adequate numbers, we worked in a few Clam Developmental players who had practices with us all summer long, but had yet to be invited to an event.

Thrown into a very tough bracket, the rising junior Rising Clams battled their way to a 2-4 record. In the midst of what might be considered a sub-par performance, certain individuals - Will Ryan, George Fay, John Reinhardt and Taber Tyrrell - excelled.

The rising sophomore Rising Clams were a different story. Blitzing their way to an 8-1 record and DIVISION CHAMPIONSHIP, the Rising Clams 2013 were truly outstanding. Watching players such as Ray Horgan, Matt Ryan, Nick Desisto, Ben Katz & Kevin Murphy shine amidst some strong competition, one could not help but think how strong this 2013 squad could be if we went to a grade-appropriate format (which we have since decided to do).

On the whole, the Rising Clams posted a strong 19-9-1 record. Included in this record was an undefeated tournament (Harvard), two All Stars (Pasquale & Burr), and a Division Championship. Most importantly, the Rising Clams displayed a work ethic and toughness that was among the best we saw in our program. If the Rising Clams are a bell-weather for our future, I'm a happy Coach...because of course they are.
