Three more commitments include 2nd and 3rd junior

Senior commitments continue to come, now alongside juniors choosing D1 paths early in process

Junior commitments before Thanksgiving used to be exceedingly rare. No longer.  And many people - college coaches - have mixed feelings on whether the trend is more positive or negative. But regardless of your stance, the trend isn't going away. To the contrary, it seems to be excelerating. Right now we have no less than six Fighting Clam juniors who have received an offer of some kind, largely based on their play this fall. And over the past two days, two of these offers have been accepted.

But first things first. Not to be outdone with the furious junior scramble, the first commitment of the past week came from a senior adhering to a more conventional recruiting timeline.

Goaltender Rory Finnegan (Lowell HS, senior) became the first Fighting Clam in the program's history to choose Virginia Wesleyan, down in the beautiful tidewater area of Virginia. We here at Top Gun know Virginia Wesleyan well. We did a camp there several years ago and loved the place. For Rory, his choice came down to Queens College and Virginia Wesleyan. And of the two choices, after thoroughly considering both, Rory landed on Va. Wesleyan as his home-to-be for four years. It suffices to say that the entire Top Gun coaching staff is very pleased with Rory's decision.

The next two commitments came on the same day - Tuesday of this week. The one nosing out in the other by a couple hours was LSM Chase Williams (Rivers, rep. junior) who called Ryan Curtis during one of his free blocks to express his intention to commit to the University of Vermont. In so doing, Chase joins current Vermont Captain defenseman Evan O'Brien (a current senior), and will join current Vermont 2011 commitment Tanner Powers, who will be a defensive Captain this spring. Both Evan and Tanner attend(ed) the Rivers School; Evan PG'ed at Phillips Exeter before heading north to Burlington.

A couple hours later came the exciting news that goaltender Will Ryan (Avon Old Farms, junior) committed to the University of Delaware. In the storied Clam history, you have to go back to the year 2001 for the last Clam to have gone on to become a Blue Hen. Then St. Johns Prep goaltender A.C. Vivian went on to play at U Del after shining as a junior at the Hotbeds camp held on Delaware's campus. Will was being aggressively recruited by a handful of D1 schools throughout the fall, but throughout the process, Will was confident that Delaware was the place for him. When asked, I told Will that I definitely agreed. I still most certainly do!

With his commitment, Rory becomes the 20th player from last summer's team to decide on his college, and future program. With their commitments, Chase and Will become commitments #21 & #22 from last summer's team, and as mentioned above, 2012 class commitments #2 and #3. Gear up - there are more to come, and I'll be sure to get these commitments posted as soon as I receive word of them happening!

Our sincere congratulations to Rory, Chase & Will!!
