New Year rings in multiple D1 commitments

Exciting two weeks see four Clams commit to D1 programs

Over the past couple weeks, four of our 2011 Clams have informed me of their commitments to D1 programs. While two Clam players and their parents are not yet ready for a public announcement, two are. And it is with pride that I anounce these two players' commitments.

The first of these players is Duxbury midfielder Chris Williams. Chris, a workhorse at the midfield shined throughout the summer and especially the fall, considered a number of colleges. As fall progressed, the list slowly narrowed. And by the middle of December, the list was down to three lead contenders: Providence, Quinnipiac, and the upstart High Point University (the coutntry's newest Division 1 lacrosse program). While Chris liked different things about each program and university, something about Quinnipiac grabbed him more than the others following his mid-December visit. And after considering his offer for a week, Chris called Coach Fekete and gave him the news. With his choice to attend Quinnipiac, Chris joins four other former Clams who are now Bobcats, one in each class. They are: Bobby Schnibbe (Duxbury HS LSM, senior); Grant Marston (Duxbury HS midfielder, junior); Brendan Wilbur (Hingham HS attackman, sophomore) & JB Marston (Duxbury HS defenseman, freshman).

Word of two more commitments preceded the last of the four. And in fact, it was just yesterday when I heard that the fourth commitment was official (or as official as a verbal commitment can be). The player was Jake Vogl, a midfielder from Aquinas Institute in upstate New York. And his commitment was to the University of Hartford.

I don't know too much about Jake's recruitment other than the fact that the University of Hartford had been tracking him a bit throughout his 2010 summer. And with Jake's standout performance at the Up Lax tournament in Annapolis, MD in late November, the Hartford coaching staff's minds were made up: Jake was a player they very much wanted. And shortly after a successful December visit, Coach Lawrence made Jake an appropriately generous offer that Jake accepted less than a month later.

Jake joins one other Clam at the University of Hartford, senior midfielder Tim Fallon from Lawrence Academy. Also a member of the Clam coaching staff for the past couple seasons, Tim earned HM All-American honors for his work at the face-off X last spring; this year he is expected by most to be one of the country's top face-off middies again. Jake will also join Jimmy Murphy (senior attackman, Brewster Academy), who will play one more year of high school ball before heading down to Hartford.

Our congratulations go out to Chris, Jake, and all of our 2011 and 2012 Clams who cement their opportunities to make a splash at the collegiate level, and to continue the long, proud line of Clams who have made, and are making, their mark on the national stage.

Below are all of our commitments from either our 2010 summer or fall teams. Our congratulations go out to all our 2010/2011 Clams either going on to play in college, or choosing where they'll play a couple years from now:
