TOP GUN LACROSSE CELEBRATES ITS 25TH CAMP SEASON

Big weekend for Clam alumni attackmen

A few former Clam attackmen shine in what for many was 2011 kick-off weekend

Let me start off by saying it may very have been a big weekend for Clam defensive players as well. But because I'm more or less a slave to box scores like everyone else, I can only report what I know.

And what I do know is that a trio of Clam attackmen started the season off on the right foot.

From the oldest on down, it was senior Hobart attackman Tim Bigelow (The Rivers School/Northfield Mount Hermon) who had perhaps the most noteworthy performance of our alumni this weekend. Tim was tied for a team-high 3 points (2G, 1A) as the Statesmen apparently rallied furiously in the 4th quarter to defeat emerging D1 power Robert Morris 9-8.

Next down the seniority ladder was Lynchburg sophomore attackman Derek Sweet (Duxbury HS). Though the Hornets fell to the Salisbury Sea Gulls 5-13, Derek went 1-1, and had a strong game, complete with a couple pipes and a few near misses, according to a spectator who caught the game live.

And then there was freshman Jordan Greenfield (The Rivers School), who notched his first official collegiate goal as Fairfield shocked Lafayette by beating them 8-4.

Other notables:

Senior Tim Fallon (Lawrence Academy), pre-season AA face-off man from University of Hartford, won 16 of 27 face-offs, and had a game-high 12 groundballs, as Hartford fell to #16 UMASS 10-14.

Denison freshman Tommy Harrison (The Rivers School/Northfield Mt. Hermon) started his first collegiate game, and did his part to help Denison defeat Mt. St. Joseph's 14-7 and earn their first win of their 2011 season.

Notre Dame sophmore Quinn Cully (Duxbury HS) helped the Irish get a bit of revenge on Duke Sunday as the Irish took down the Blue Devils 12-7 by playing solid defense at the midfield against Duke's top middies.
