TOP GUN LACROSSE CELEBRATES ITS 25TH CAMP SEASON

Clams 2011 Commitments

Three seniors Clams choose strong D3 programs; will try to fill (HUGE) shoes of Clam predecessors It occurred to me today that it's been a while since I've given any updates on our web page about the college lacrosse paths our seniors have chosen. And in just the last couple weeks, three seniors have informed me of the strong programs they have chosen.

First came Ben Lesser (Concord/Carlisle), who has chosen to play his college ball for the Ithaca College Bombers. Ben chose from a number of colleges that included but was not limited to Denison and a few others I can't recall. Ben follows in the footsteps of two other former Clam attackmen who headed out to Ithaca, Alec Siefert (Duxbury) and Matt Nelligan (Pingree). Incredibly, each of these players was named All-American for their performance at Ithaca. No pressure though, Ben.

Next came the decision from attackman Kevin Sainte (Belmont HS). Kevin's was an interesting situation. Up until the very end, Kevin was deciding between D3 options Eastern Connecticut, Keene State & Springfield, and the option to do a PG to try to better his chances at D1 ball (schools interested in Kevin if he PG'ed included Hartford, Quinnipiac and UVM). For a number of reasons, Kevin chose Springfield, where he has been heavily recruited for over a year. In choosing Springfield, Kevin follows in the footsteps of Jeff Beebe (Lincoln/Sudbury; named All-American, now a Boston Cannon & Springfield Asst. Coach), Pete Sessa (Rivers; named All-League & Captain while at Springfield, to a Springfield Asst. Coach next year) and current Springfield senior Mark Eaton (Rivers, 2010 All-American & Pilgrim League Player of the Year). No pressure for you Kevin either.

And just yesterday I received word that senior midfielder Alex Bunick (Rivers) has decided to play his college ball at Babson College. Several Clams have gone to be Beavers, but perhaps the most notable is Jason Wellemeyer, who graduated from Babson in 2008. Jason led Babson in scoring during multiple seasons, was named to the Pilgrim Lacrosse League All Conference Team as a senior and second team as both a sophomore and junior. Jason coached with the Clams for a couple seasons, and is now one of the Co-founders of Prime Time Lacrosse. Currently, sophomore midfielder Mike Griffin (Duxbury), a Clam alum, is having a solid season for Babson, averaging just under a point a game and making invaluable contributions as a defensive midfielder and face-off wing man.

Best of luck to each of you, Ben, Kevin & Alex. Whether you like it or not, you've got big Clam shoes to fill. So work hard!
