TOP GUN LACROSSE CELEBRATES ITS 25TH CAMP SEASON

NE East/West All Star game includes several Clams

Six Clams from eastern New England private schools will compete in NE East/West game; (at least) one to compete in smaller school game

Yesterday afternoon (6/1) at 4PM, the New England East/West was played at Loomis Chaffee, and the East team's roster will include six 2011 Fighting Clams. They are as follows:

Jimmy Murphy, Brewster midfielder, headed to the University of Hartford next year

Will Walker
, Phillips Andover midfielder, headed to Harvard University next year

Murph Vandervelde
, St. Sebastians midfielder, headed to Harvard University next year

Brendan McNeill
, Rivers midfielder, headed to Colby next year

Tanner Powers
, Rivers midfielder, headed to the University of Vermont next year

Charlie Finnegan
, Thayer LSM, headed to Trinity next year

While the game was shortned due to weather, I did receive strong reports on the abbreviated showings of all Clams participating. Our sideline reporter provided the following report:

Tanner (Powers) played as well as I’ve seen him in 2 years—totally shut down some very talented attackmen from West squad, including several D1 (Georgetown, Fairfield, Scranton) commits. Tanner stripped a couple of these guys and no one he was guarding even came close to the net. Brendan (McNeill) played well, had some really good plays on transition, and once again picked up the tempo of the game.

Charlie (Finnegan) played well, several ground balls and good outlet passes but didn’t seem to play as much “close D”. But, he’s really quick and opens things up in a blink of an eye.

Jimmy (Murphy), converted to middie, started the game on the wing and was involved in some key transition plays. While he didn’t score, he definitely caused some adjustments when on offense.

Murph (Vandervelde) had a nice goal, dodge to the right and bounce shot in. Will (Walker) had nice goal, good feed from a middie and clinical finish.

I wish I had more to offer but with only 1/2 a game (tornados) I didn’t have a lot to work with.

In the other East/West game, featuring players from smaller New England private schools, I have been notified the Pingree attackman Colin Rossano (headed to Roanoke) was selected to compete for the East squad.

Our congratulations go out to all the boys!
