TOP GUN LACROSSE CELEBRATES ITS 25TH CAMP SEASON

'NECKS DO IT AGAIN!

The 2015 Littlenecks win its second tournament in two tries this weekend at UMASS Amherst.

The 2015 Littlenecks team, a group of twenty-three 8th graders from 19 towns, won its second tournament in two tries this weekend at UMASS Amherst.

In divisional play, ‘Necks ’15 went 5-0, defeating teams from Buffalo, NY, New Hampshire, Massachusetts (NESLL), upstate New York and Long Island.

In the finals, the ‘Necks drew the very powerful Leading Edge team from New Jersey – also undefeated in pool play.  After opening a 4-2 halftime lead, they held off a hard late charge to record a thrilling 7-6 win.

The victory, which saw 14 players enter the scoring column, was a total team effort.  Of the total 40 goals scored over six games, 28 were assisted.  And if assists were recorded “hockey style”, Henry Behrens (2 assists), might well have led the team in scoring.

The leading goal scorer was James Burr with 7 (11 points total).  Nick Albano also had 11 points (5 goals, 6 assists).  Angus O’Rourke, a force in the faceoff circle, also added 8 points (4 goals, 4 assists).

Special recognition also goes to the fearsome defensive corps, led by Tim Dick, Mack Rush, Gabe Cormier and Chris Titone.  Backed by the stingy goal-tending of Josh Kirson and Henry Donnellan, who saved well over 70% of the shots they faced, the ‘Necks 2015 D held opponents to under 3 goals per game.

The ’Necks Orange team also had a very solid run at the tournament.

Their final record was 4-1 (including a “non-traditional” win), playing teams from Long Island, Connecticut and Massachusetts.

James Healy led the team in scoring with 4 goals and 4 assists.  Ryan Parson, fresh off the “DL”, added  7 points, leading the team in goals with 5.  Jack Suominen also provided a very strong game in the faceoff circle.  Every offensive player recorded points at the tournament.  Cam Wolfe (2 goals, 2 assists) also deserves special recognition for his play.

The defense of Tommy DeAngelis, Nat Leabo, Ben Rush and Ben Snow, anchored by the combined 60% plus save percentage of McCrae Williams and Oliver Rordorf, made it very difficult for any opponent to score.

The New England Youth All-Star Tournament attracted 178 pre-high school teams from all over the country.  It is conservatively estimated that 3500 young athletes participated.

Over this weekend, the two Top Gun Littleneck teams combined for a record of 10-1 and a Championship!

Congratulations!
