TOP GUN LACROSSE CELEBRATES ITS 25TH CAMP SEASON

Hofstra Results

The 2014 AA's post a 3-2 record at Hofstra.

OVERVIEW

For the 2014 AA team's last event of the summer, we traveled down to Long Island.

It was a frustrating early morning start for the boys in blue and orange as they matched up against a very goodFLG 2013 team.  Our defense was extremely strong. The unit, spear-headed by Zach Ambrosino and Ryan Caley, held FLG to only four goals in the game, and goalie Kevin Lally had nine saves.  Unfortunately, the FLG defense was equally up to the task and the Clams' offense left us wanting as we dropped the first game 0-4.

From then on, though, the Clams played the way they can.  The second game pitted us against the Long Island Outlaws and saw the Clams establish a commanding 5-1 half-time lead behind two goals and an assist from attackman Tyler Breen (he added another assist in the second half).  While the Outlaws made a good run in the second half, the six saves from goalie Jimmy Cochran (9 saves total) and dominant face-off play from Colin Orr (8/11) helped seal the deal.

The last game of Saturday had us facing off against the Farmingdale Lacrosse Club, which was a patient, skilled team that looked to draw us into mistakes with poised play.  We matched that poise, not panicking when we fell behind twice, and with Colin Orr perfect at the face-off "X" (11/11, 12 GB), we gradually took control of the game.  Attackman Tucker Mscisz notched a goal and two assists while Tyler Breen tallied two goals and middie Brendan Gates also put up two points, a goal (game-winning) and an assist.

With the 2-1 record coming out of Saturday, we found ourselves into the playoffs on Sunday.

From a purely objective perspective as a fan, this was one of the most exciting games I've seen all summer.  The game was a back and forth contest versus CP Lacrosse 2013 that saw a great defensive effort from both teams.  With defenseman Ryan Caley scoring his second goal of the tournament to tie the game in the first half and then Kyle Parsons (1G, 1A) gaving us the lead going into the half, we felt good about our chances.  Unfortanely, the second half saw the CP Lax goalie catch fire and after killing a two minute penalty, CP Lax broke a 4-4 tie with less than three minutes to play, ultimately knocking us out of the playoffs.

So we went into our last game of the summer (vs Decicco) knowing this was the last time this group would be together until September.  And we made a statement.  Building a 6-1 half-time lead, we closed out the summer with a 10-4 win.  The scoring was spread out with Tyler Breen leading the team with four goals, followed by Brendan Gates (1G, 2A) and Greg Plumb (2G, 1A) posting three points a piece.  Hunter Tyrrell (2G) and Tim Shield (1G, 1A) also had multi-point performances.  Thomas Soule, Ty Martz and Drew Bourdeau were monsters in the defensive effort in this contest.
