All Star Lacrosse

Three New Clams Commits

Three more Clams make their commitments, all three from the 2013 class.

What is usually a relatively quiet period for the recruitment process still had some action in late August.

First was Brendan Gnecco (Winnacunnet HS) about mid-month deciding that Endicott College and the Gulls were the best fit for him: competitive D3 lacrosse and relatively close to home.  Brendan will head up to Beverly, Mass. looking to continue building Endicott's reputation of becoming the "Salisbury of the North".  Brendan will be following Clam Alums Mark Cornacchio (The Rivers School), Jon Siderewicz (St. John's Prep/Brewster), Ryan Tocci (Arlington HS) and stand out goalie Eric Hagarty (Lincoln-Sudbury HS), who went on to earn All-American honors during his playing days, and now continues on with the Gulls in a coaching capacity.

Next was Tucker Mathers (St. John's Prep), who was trying to decide between D1 (schools like Army and Holy Cross) and D3 NESCAC.  The unsuprising trend of many D1 prospects in New England choosing NESCAC continued as Tucker chose to attend Tufts.  The reason: he wants to play football and lacrosse, which in the D1 world is increasingly difficult to near impossible.  Tucker will also have several Clam Alum waiting for him in Tyler Page (Phillips Exeter), Connor Helfrich (Lawrence Academy), and fellow defensive stand-outs Sam Gardner (Phillips Exeter) and Matt Callahan (Phillips Exeter/Fairfield).  Matt originally chose to attend Fairfield, but despite starting as a freshman for the Stags, decided he wanted to trade the athletic rigors for the academic rigors that Tufts offered, but still compete at high level.  Like Tucker, Connor Helfrich also chose the D3 route in order to pursue two sports: hockey and lacrosse.

Finishing up the month was Matt Ikawa (Winnacunnet HS) deciding to join the plethora of Clams that are travelling down to Willimantic, Connecticut to become Eastern Connecticut Warriors.  Since 2009, twelve Clam Alums have chosen Easter Conn.  Last year saw Cody Carbone (North Reading HS), Matt Gorski (Lowell HS), and Mike Dellanno (Wakefield HS) decide to become Warriors.

To date, the 2013 Clams have earned eighteen commitments, with thirteen D1 commitments.

Congratulations, gentlemen!
