Harvard Crimson Classic Coverage

2014 AA and A teams go a combined 6-0, for a stellar start to their respective summer '13 campaigns

Overview of the weekend: The Fighting Clam teams at the Harvard team had an outstanding start to their Summer 2013 campaign, going a combined 15-1-1. Included in the wins were two excited one-goal wins to in-state rival Laxachusetts, two to north-of-the-border rival the NH Tomahawks, and decisive wins vs. in-state foes NESLL and IAS (twice).

The lone tie of the weekend came vs. Laxachusetts 2016's, who squared off in an exciting, somewhat heated and intense game that saw our '16 A's come back to tie it. Unfortunately our buzzer-beating bid fell short, but this was undoubtedly the most exciting game of the weekend for the '16 A's.

The lone loss of the weekend was a one-goal loss by the '15 A squad to a scrappy and determined 128 team (a program we also defeated once). Give credit where it's due though, they jumped up on us, and despite a determined comeback, we couldn't get over the hump. While not a bad game, this coach feels that if this team played the way it did in Saturday's final game, or either of the Sunday games, then this would not have been a loss. But that as it may, they got us.

Below are some stats, and little more of an in-depth blurb about each team. Please note that the stats will not be entirely correct, but we do our best. Ultimately, stats just provide a snapshot, and are not ultimately of high importance to our overall goal throughout the summer.

2014 AA
Team Record: 3-0 (Saturday only)
Game Scores
Clams (16) vs. IAS (1)
Clams (11) vs. 128 (4)
Clams (12) vs. 413 (4)

Comments: The short report on this team is they played the way we expected, and handily defeated their three opponents on the day. Given the time this team has spent together, and the talent on the roster, it would not be an exaggeration to say that nothing than three decisive wins was to have been expected. The standout of the day might have been Joey Cormier, who was consistently dominant at the X, and also led the team in GB's with 13. Aaron Son led the group of talented of poles in # of GB's with 10. Both goalies were outstanding throughout the weekend, as we've come to expect from this tandem; Robert Shaw stopped 16 shots, and Lucas DeAngelo turned back 13.

2014 A
Team Record: 3-0 (Sunday only)
Game Scores
Clams (10) vs. Laxachusetts (9)
Clams (8) vs. NH Tomahawks (2)
Clams (10) vs. IAS (4)

Comments:
Our '14 A group may not be as consistently dominant as its AA counterpart, but it is a very good team, and has been throughout the past year. More than anything else on Sunday, I feel this team show its competitiveness, toughness, and grit. A familiar name pops up again, as Joey Cormier played with both the AA's on Saturday and the A's on Sunday, and was equally dominant with both groups (it should also be noted that Joey scored the game-winner vs. Laxachusetts in the final seconds in the day's most exciting game). Colin Fahey led the team in GB's with 13. Newcomer Lucas DeAngelo played well between the pipes stopping 13 shots, as did Clam veteran Matt D'Amore, with 12 stops.
