     Title: Eleventh 2011 Clam commits
Mark MacDonald becomes 10th D1 Clam from summer team, and 11th overall to choose his path

Mark MacDonald registered for the Clam program earlier in the spring saying he figured he'd probably end up playing solid D2 or D3 lacrosse. He mentioned St. Anselm's, Merrimack and a few other schools. And my coaches and I said that sounded about right.

Then a couple things happened. First, Mark seemed to get better and better as the spring got underway. A team you might have heard of - St. Johns Prep - was tearing through their early season schedule, with a list of resounding victories that included a 12-7 victory vs. arch-nemesis and regional behemoth Duxbury. Word was spreading that one of the handful of reasons for the Prep's early success was the surprisingly dominant play of face-off man Mark MacDonald. Then, one State Championship later, Mark started to do the same thing out on the recruting circuit as a Fighting Clam.

And then, slowly and gradually, Mark's list shifted from a D2/D3-heavy list to a more D1-centric list that included interested from Holy Cross, Providence and Sacred Heart. Oustanding play tends to do that.

After receiving attention from the schools listed above and others, Mark finally settled on Sacred Heart. An up and coming program that has made some changes to their coaching staff to better themslves from the top down, Sacred Heart will at least have one position where they'll have a lot less to worry about.

With Mark's commitment, the list of D1-committed Clams stands at ten, and overall committed Clams stands at eleven. And the fire's still very, very hot - nearly every day I hear of a Clam whose been faced with a decision to commit or not to commit. Exciting times indeed.

To date, below are the eleven Summer 2010 committed Clams, and the schools they've committed. Stay tuned - further commitments will be posted here as I hear them:
