Categories: clam_chatter Date: Feb 10, 2011 Title: Collegiate Clams get plenty of pre-season praiseINSIDE LACROSSE/FACE-OFF Magazine is out with its annual Pre-season "Yearbook"; as usual, Clam Alumni are everywhere
It's one thing to play the "committed-to" game (this player is committed to go here, and this player is committed to go there), it's a fun game to play. It's always exciting to try to guess who the next great player will be, and if they'll be from your program.
But a commitment is, at best, a promise to get you through the door, and nothing more. Once you arrive at your collegiate destination, you have to earn your stripes. And the blunt truth is, due either to not meeting academic or on-field expectations, more will not make it then will make it.
That said, players getting their mention in the FACE-OFF magazine have at least earned some stripes. For freshmen, to get a mention means you've impressed in fall ball (and, frankly, for a freshmen to get a mention, he must have impressed a lot). For sophomores, juniors & seniors, it means after at least one season, coaches believe these players are prepared to either step into the limelight, or return to the limelight, as the case may be.
So, for a second, let's give our attention where it actually belongs. Not as much to the high school players who might make it when they arrive at their destination, but to the ones who have. After actual time spent on a college field, the players below have gained enough of their coach's confidence to warrant an announcement to the lacrosse world, in its foremost Pre-season publication, that they're ready.
So here goes the Top Gun Fighting Clams forecast by FACE-OFF Magazine to shine in '11*.
In this publication, FACE-OFF has focused on all D1 programs, but only the Pre-season Top 10 in D2, and the Pre-season Top 20 in D3. So it is only players on these programs, and players earning noteworthy Pre-season distinctions from unranked D2 and D3 teams such as Pre-season All-Conference or All-American, who I'm able to mention below.
As always, congrats to everyone below.
*While we will have many Clams playing on D1 team and top D2/D3 teams throughout collegiate lacrosse, below we are mentioning only those who got an actual mention in FACE-OFF. So apologies to those in advance to those of you who have played hard and made the team, but did not get a mention; we'll catch up with you during the spring
