Title: Multiple Clams/L'necks teams set to kickoff
Results and write-ups for the TC Scrimmage and the Rutgers MVP Tournament now posted

It was hard to believe the Summer Tour is here, but yesterday evening, after two strong practices by both the Littlenecks and the Fighting Clams 2012 Blue (with some '13's mixed in), it felt like little had changed since fall.

To sum up all that is happening in the next four days with all our teams, see below. You'll find tournament schedules for each team playing, brackets (where applicable), rosters, and an overview of the event. Results will also be posted here early next week. (And, remember, for more immediate results, follow us on facebook.

Here goes:

6/16 FIGHTING CLAMS @ TC SCRIMMAGE ROSTER

SCHEDULE

OVERVIEW: For several years now, the Team Central Jamboree in Southboro is how we've kicked off our Summer Tour. It generally showcases good lacrosse, and college coaches have always attended in good numbers.

Like many of the teams we play, we will have only one practice under our belt beforehand, so we view these "games" as extentions of this first practice.

Because many of our 2012's leave the next day for the Rutgers MXP event in New Jersey, this team will largely be 2013's. Given the way the recruiting process is moving ahead, this is probably the way at least some of the coaches would want it.

So here goes, our schedule, and further details on the event. Should be fun.

4:30PM - TEAMS ARRIVE

5:30PM vs. NESLL

7PM - vs. TC RED

RESULTS: While scores were not officially kept at this event, everyone keeps a mental tally of how the games go.  And when the night finished, our boys walked away with a 2-0-1 mark.

The evening started out with a strong NESLL team that, despited being shorted handed, played at a high level.  Both teams were excited to start the summer off against each other and as unsatisfying at a tie can be, it was fitting that when the final whistle blew, that's what we ended with: a 4-4 tie.

Our second game was against IAS, and as we always hope, the Clams got better as this game wore on, gaining momentum and control and taking the win at the end.

Our last game of the night was against Team Central Red.  As they always do, Team Central came out ready, and pushed hard.  If it wasn't for stellar play from our defense and goalie, the tide might have turned against us.  Fortunately, we took advantage of our defensive stands and was able to build a lead and hold on to it down the stretch to secure the win.

All in all a nice glimpse into what the summer should hold for the 2012's and 2013's.

RUTGERS MXP TOURNAMENT

WEEK 1

OVERVIEW: The Rutgers event kicks off the club season for many of the country's best club programs. Known throughout the country as one of the elite events, the bar has been set high for college coaches due to attend & recruit. In years past, there have been more than 100 coaches that have made the trek to north Jersey.

Last year, we went 5-1 at this event with our lone lost in the semi-finals. Nevertherless our performance was strong, and players that attended certainly got their share of exposure.

RESULTS: As always, this is a tough tournament to start the summer with and that's part of the reason we do so.  Friday night the 2012 Clams started off with a gritty Pittsburg Senior Elite team that made us work for every inch that we took.  With solid play from both goalies and the defense in front of them (allowing only 3 goals), the offense was able to get into a little bit of a rhythm led by 3 goals from Jack Rautiola and 2 from Joey Pasquale plus a goal and assist from  work-horse midfielder Kyle Soroka.

Saturday morning matched us up with the 2012 Crabs.  This game was defined by momentum swings for both teams.  The Crabs grabbed an early lead which we answered in the middle of the game, spanning the end of the first half and the beginning of the second.  Like any good team, the Crabs did the same getting the game-winning goal off a trip deflection that just trickled over the goal-line.  The college coaches that lined the sidelines were all very interested and entertained by the contest.

The second game of Saturday was one that everyone wanted back.  While face-off specialist Joey Lefebvre gave us great chances with possessions winning 9 of 11 face-offs, as did a 1 goal, 1 assist outing from middie Conor Van Duzer, we were undisciplined with the ball and a very opportunistic Burning River squad took advantage and got the win.

The Saturday evening game showed just how much of a grind these tournaments can be.  What was a tight battle for the first half (ending in a 2-2 tie), slowly got away from us late in the second half.

Sunday morning's game was a pleasure to watch.  Every part of the team seemed to fall together.  The offense put up 13 goals (10 of them assisted) led by four goals from Conor Helfrich and 3 assists from Sam Sweet.  The team play was punctuated by a great transition towards the end of the game that started with a save by goalie Jared Fong that went to a pole then quickly up to a middie and ended with a quick pass to point man Sam Sweet down to Spencer Low and over for an open net goal for Conor Helfrich.  It was the type of transition play Coach Sweet had been asking for all weekend.  It was a good way to end the weekend.

RISING CLAMS IAS ROSTER

SCHEDULE

OVERVIEW: IAS's June Showcase has become an ideal way for our Rising Clams to kickoff their Summer Tour over the past couple years. The competition is good but not overwhelming. Score is not formally kept, so games tend to have more of a scrimmage-type feel than full-fledged games. All in all, it's ideal given its order in our summer sequence of events.

By the end of this event, our coaches will have gained valuable information about how the depth chart will be ordered for the remainder of the summer. As always, we're hoping to come out of the day getting the better of more opponents than not.
