COMMENTS: This weekend saw the Fighting Clams 2012 Blue end the summer with a bang by going 6-0 at the Brown Tournament. Offensively, the Clams were paced by a dominate Midfield.  Kyle Soroka, arguably the 2012 most consistent performer, top the scoring charts with 6 goals and 6 assists as well as causing many turnovers and picking lots of ground balls both on the ride and off the face-off wing. Coupled with Conor Van Duzer, and Jeff Vaz, they created one of the most lethal midfield lines I have seen put on a summer field in a long time.

At the Face off X, Joey Lefebvre continued his absolute domination winning well over 80% of the draws, many of which were for fast breaks. His continued superiority allowed the Clams to control the pace of the game, playing a very impressive, settled and disciplined brand of lacrosse. Joey was assisted with stellar wing play by Chris Ryan. Not only did he pick up countless GB’s, he was a beast on the ride, taking teams out of their rhythm and never really letting anyone get into a comfort zone.

Attack wise it was very much a team effort. No matter who was on the field, they moved the ball well, found the open man and finished. This was personified most by Tyler McKelvie who notched 7 goals on the day, many of which coming from finding space and finishing.

Between the pipes, both Chase Murphy and Miles McCarthy were beyond solid. When evaluating goalies, usually anything over 60% save percentage is stellar. Both Miles and Chase broke the 70% plateau, making sever huge one on one saves each. In many ways it was their efforts that caused the scores to be lop sided. Rarely do you see a shutout in lacrosse. Miles and Chase managed to split 2 on the weekend.

Though it was terrific to go undefeated, maybe the greatest honor bestowed upon us, was the All-Star game. Instead of choosing a group of our guys to participate (which I assume would have been a very large number), the tournament director, asked us to suite up as a unit and take on the rest of the All-Star selections. To me, this was the perfect culmination to a summer of hard work and quality lacrosse. Though we had some up and downs, as a coach, I am extremely proud to see the improvement made by so many of our players. Some may already be committed, some many in the process, but personally I can’t wait to see all of them compete at the next level.
