Title: 2015 Clam recruiting cycle kicks into gear

Two recent 2015 Clams commitments are fourth and fifth earliest ever

As the recruiting process slides ever earlier, now is the earliest our program has ever been able to say a specific class's recruiting cycle has really begun. With two new commitments added to the two made earlier this Fall we can no longer avoid saying: the 2015 recruiting cycle for the Clam program's Top D1 prospects is officially underway.
Here's a little perspective:  Our first commitment in the 2014 class was attackman Tyler Breen (Taft/Virginia, 2014), a reclassified player down at Taft, who did so early in the Fall of his repeat sophomore year. It was roughly a half year before our next 2014 (Dustin Vitgliano, Hanover HS) made his commitment to Drexel University.  Then, after a standout 2012 Summer as a 2014, defenseman Zach Ambrosino (Taft/Virginia, 2015) decided to reclassify (becoming a 2015) at Taft and, like Tyler, was committed to Virginia early in the Fall of 2012.

Perhaps it should have been a sign when attackman Joey Manown (La Salle HS, 2015) committed to Duke University just a couple months after Ambrosino that everyone's recruitment was going to slide forward, which is in line with the national trend. As a program, we made a promise to ourselves not to perpetuate early recruitment unless players, players' parents and/or college coaches indicated they'd be receptive to the process being pushed forward. For both Andrew Gallahue (St. Johns Prep/Villanova, 2015) and Foster Leboeuf (Phillips Andover/Brown, 2015) all of these factors came together at an earlier point than ever before, just as they had for Zach and Joey in the Fall. I cannot say that I am surprised.
Here's how both processes went:

It was a little more than a week ago I was notified that St. Johns Prep attackman Andrew Gallahue, currently a junior, has decided to reclassify and commit to Villanova as a 2015. Andrew was injured throughout this past Summer season, where he would have played as a 2014, but picked up right where he left off last Spring, excelling at the UMASS Mid-Fall Classic, the Harvard Crimson Classic, and the Philly Showcase individual and team days. Andrew considered a number of schools over the past few months, but in the end it came down to Drexel, Lafayette (both as a 2014) and Villanova. In choosing Villanova, Andrew became our 3rd member of the 2015 to go D1.
Just a couple nights ago I learned that Phillips Andover sophomore attackman Foster Leboeuf has committed to Brown University. Foster has been with the Clams since 7th grade, and has received significant praise in the blue and orange. This past Summer he was an All Star at the Gait Cup and Hotbeds tournaments. This past fall he attended the Harvard Crimson Classic and the Philly Showcase individual and team days; he led the Clams in goals scored and points at both events. Foster also considered Harvard, the University of Pennsylvania and Princeton. Foster is the fourth Clam in the 2015 class to commit to a D1 program.

Knowing what I know about our 2015 class, and yes, even our 2016 class, the number of our early commitments will continue to pile up. Mirroring the sentiments of the lacrosse community as a whole, we advise caution to all who are faced with these early opportunities. One must always find the balance between giving into the pressure of needing to commit early, and knowing in your heart that it's the right thing to do. Alas, the process waits for no one, but for our top players it seems the time is now.
