Title: Week #2 Clam Mentorship Breakdown
Week #2 ended with a string of close contests

The Clam mentorship program picked up where it left off in week 1, as each senior-led team looked to secure their teams first win or jump out to a 2-0 record.  Week 2 again saw many close games, including two one goal contests that came down to the wire. Team Lyne picked up their first win of the season with a tight 25-24 victory over Sam Cleveland-less Team Cleveland (Coach Cleveland had a rescheduled high school soccer game). Team Kirson and Team Foster both secured their teams first win with victories over Weston and Belmont Hill respectively. Team Chin fell 23-24 to a talented Acton-Boxboro squad moving them to 1-1 on the young season. With all Clam Teams tied at 1-1, week 3 becomes an important week for the Clam team standings.   --

*Below is a breakdown of week one with comments from each team Captain.  Note stats are taken to the best of our ability and will not be 100% accurate.

Team Kirson Game Report

Result: W 28-26 Over Weston

Current Record: 1-1

Top 3 Performers:

Abdullah Nassif (Archbishop Williams) - 9 goals
Matt Paul (Rivers) - 8 goals
Peter Sullivan (Thayer) - 5 goals

Captain's Corner:Good team win for "the boys" this past weekend over the Weston squad. Overall great team effort with offensive production coming from our entire short handed team. Being the only pole on the team, Will Moriarity (Catholic Memorial) was a force, holding down the back half of the field. The boys will be looking to continue the streak heading into next weekend.” - Coach Kirson

Team Chin Game Breakdown

Result: L 23-24 to AB

Record: 1-1

Top 3 Performers:

DJ Sloan (St. John's Shrewsbury) - 8 goals, 2 assists
Shay Lynch (Newton North) - 9 goals, 1 assist
Alex Chin (Shrewsbury) - 4 goals, 3 assists

Captain's Corner: “This week was again a hard fought battle with Team Chin coming up sort by 1 goal to Team AB. It was close the whole game with neither team gaining a substantial lead on the other. It was a lot of back and fourth action with great offensive performances from DJ Sloan and Shay Lynch. We were short on subs and the whole team did a great job putting in their best effort with little breaks. Collectively the team had a strong defensive performance, especiallyby Ridge Driscoll (Marblehead) and Ryan Bannon (Hopkinton...Ryan's originally a goalie but had to step on defense). The game came down to a botched play by Coach Chin which may have cost the game for the team. One loss wont stop us and we will try to pick that momentum back up to try to win next weeks game.” Coach Chin

Team Cleveland Game Breakdown*
Rivers midfielder Nick Churchill stepped in as Player Coach

Result: L 24-25 to Team Lyne

Record: 1-1

Top 3 Performers:

Nick Churchill (Rivers) - 7 goals, 2 assists
Evan Roan (Weston) - 4 goals, 3 assists
Jack Siebert (Melrose) - 3 goals, 1 assist

Captain's Corner: “I liked the fact that we played an unselfish game and genuinely played up tempo throughout. We went down 10 and one point, but were able to battle back and almost pull out the win at the buzzer. That’s the sign of a good team, being able to battle back even when you are in a big hole. The squad can build on this for week 3.” -Stand-in Coach Churchill

Team Lyne Game Breakdown

Result: W 25-24 over Team Cleveland

Record: 1-1

Top 3 Performers:

Kerry Lyne (Wellesley) - 10 goals, 1 assist
JJ Levandowski (Fay) - 6 goals, 1 assist
Cooper Giblin (St. Mark’s) - 17 Saves

Captain's CornerThis week our team had a great 1 goal win against Team Cleveland. It was awesome to see everybody continue to hustle, even in the last minute. If we play that well every week it will be hard to stop us going forward. JJ Levandowski played very well on offense and both of our defensemen Kyle Camphausen (Wayland) and Bobby Leonhardt (Wellesley) played well on the back end. Goalie Cooper Giblin (St. Mark’s) had his best saves in crunch time to secure the win.” -Coach Lyne

Team Foster Game Breakdown

Result: W 29-27 over Bel Hincks

Record: 1-1

Top 3 Performers:

Bailey Laidman (Dover-Sherborn) - 11 goals
Blake Hailer (St. Sebastian’s) - 5 goals
Ben Churchill (Rivers) -18 Saves

Captain's Corner: “We came out to a slow start in the beginning of the game but in the second half it was by all means our game. The team came out with some fire, led by attackman Bailey Laidman (DS/UNC). In goal we had Ben Churchill (Rivers/IVY), and he was lights up in the second half. We came together and figured it out and we got ourselves a big win over a very good Belmont Hill team. Hats off to Belmont Hill goalie Reed Junkin...he was phenomenal.” -Coach Foster
