2016 AA Philly Write Up

'16 AA's rally for nice finish at Philly Showcase

COMMENTS: The 2016 AA team at the Philly Showcase continues to show flashes of truly outstanding lacrosse, interrupted by stretches of erratic play indicative of their youth. Their performance thus far has been that of a talented team still in the process of gelling and maturing.

But when they're on, they're on. A case in point is the final game of this tournament when we beat a Sweet Lax team that we had lost to at our previous tournament by an 11 goal margin by a final of 7-2. This performance really was a thing of beauty, and nearly everyone got in on the act. The team's 7 goals were scored by 6 different players (Jack Siebert was the only player with multiple goals...he was 2 & 1), and 6 of the 7 goals were assisted. The goalies each stopped 3 shots and allowed just a goal, and the defense was tremendous. It was just a great team win, and again, was a precursor of what's to come with this crew.

Similar things coule be said about their dominating day one win vs. Titanium (10 goals scored by 8 different players; 8 goals were assisted). Fact is, our coaching staff truly believe the sky is the limit for this team. We remember when our 2015 and 2014 teams were at a very similar point in their developments, and each of these teams has now played themselves to a point where they are now among the nation's elite club teams.

One more event left for this group, and it's the always-tough Hotbeds event in Delaware. We'll be playing in the open bracket (all brackets at this event are open), which means that the majority of the teams these '16's will play will be older, some significantly so. We have not taken it easy on this 2016 class, just as we did not take it easy on the "AA" class's that preceded it. In the long run, we believe in this approach, even though in the short term it leads to a team taking some lumps.

The bar has been raised high. We know this 2016 team will clear it!
